College Essay Coaching

Finding the Story Only You Can Tell

The strongest college essays cannot be manufactured from a formula. They emerge from a student’s particular way of seeing the world: the experiences that shaped them, the questions they continue to ask, the values they hold, and the moments that reveal something essential about who they are.

My college essay coaching, informed by my training with former Ivy League admissions officers, is a highly individualized and collaborative process designed to help students discover and articulate stories with depth, precision, and authenticity. I work with students from the earliest stages of exploration through final revision, providing thoughtful guidance on everything from topic selection and narrative structure to voice, reflection, and language.

These services fall under the same category as admissions support and can be combined. The pricing is the same.

Through conversation, targeted questioning, and extensive brainstorming, I help students identify the experiences, relationships, intellectual interests, challenges, and seemingly ordinary moments that may hold greater significance than they initially realize. The objective is not necessarily to share achievements but to uncover the story that reveals the most meaningful and distinctive aspects of the student. From there, I help students shape raw experiences into compelling narratives. We examine what belongs at the center of the essay, where the deeper meaning lies, and how individual details can work together to create a cohesive and memorable whole. I provide structural guidance, content suggestions, and incisive questions that push students beyond description toward genuine reflection and insight.

My feedback is deliberately rigorous, practical, and discerning. Because I approach each essay as an outside reader, I can offer an objective perspective that is often difficult for teachers, parents, and friends to provide. I help students identify where an essay can become more vivid, nuanced, purposeful, or revealing.

A central part of my work is helping students develop a distinctive voice. Polished writing should never come at the expense of authenticity. I help students refine their language and strengthen their storytelling while preserving the qualities that make their voice recognizably theirs. Throughout the process, I also help students think strategically about the larger narrative of their application. A personal statement or supplemental essay should not exist in isolation; together, the essays can illuminate dimensions of a student that may not be apparent elsewhere in the application. We consider what each piece contributes to that broader portrait and where an essay can reveal qualities, values, perspectives, or experiences that deserve greater emphasis.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students see their own experiences with greater clarity, identify what is genuinely distinctive about them, and translate that understanding into writing that is memorable because it is deeply, unmistakably their own. The finished essays should leave an admissions reader with a clearer sense of the student behind the application and a reason to remember them.
