Brainstorming, note-taking, structuring, outlining, proofreading, and editing help.
My academic career and extracurriculars at Brown stressed writing, reading, and deep critical analysis. For my classes, I did hundreds of pages of reading a week and wrote papers ranging from weekly responses to sizable research assignments. I also worked as a Senior Staff Writer for the Brown Daily Herald and a Copy Editor for the Brown Political Review. I bring my skills as a writer to my tutoring—I help students learn the craft behind writing in addition to basic grammar and language proficiency. I have a lot of experience at editing and proofreading as well.
In my internships in Israel and the Philippines, I worked with many students who learned English as a second, third, or even fourth/fifth language. I work to create comfortable and beneficial learning spaces for ESL students at school and in tutoring. I guide their writing using scaffolding from which I gradually help them build independence. They develop into autonomous, skilled writers.
