Pembroke Scholarship Fund

Every year, I am able to support up to five students, who would not typically be able to afford college consulting, on a full scholarship. I guide these students towards fully funded summer opportunities and the best college outcomes possible.

As a Professor at Afghan Female Student Outreach (AFSO), I teach the annual university preparation course to help students write their applications to programs and scholarship opportunities abroad.

Course description:

Strong college essays can open doors to higher education opportunities by sharing authentic personal stories in compelling ways. Unlike academic essays, college application essays focus on self-reflection, individuality, and narrative style. This course is designed to help students gain the tools and confidence to write powerful college essays that highlight their strengths, resilience, and unique voices. Students will learn brainstorming techniques, how to avoid overused or stereotypical topics, and how to craft essays that show, rather than tell, their stories. Through guided exercises, peer feedback, and structured revisions, students will produce polished essays tailored to real application prompts. In addition to U.S.-style application essays, students will also learn to write a Statement of Purpose (SoP) for universities like those in the UK (UCAS) and Canada, which emphasize academic interest and career goals. By the end of the course, students will have a polished portfolio of essays ready for submission.

Course objectives:

By the end of the course, students will:

  • Understand the purpose and audience of college essays.
  • Practice brainstorming strategies to generate meaningful and original essay ideas.
  • Develop personal voice and style in English writing.
  • Learn strategies for effective storytelling, including “show, don’t tell.”
  • Recognize common pitfalls and avoid cliché or overused topics.
  • Revise and edit their own essays through multiple drafts.
  • Provide and receive constructive peer feedback.
  • Produce at least two polished college application essays suitable for submission.

I offer a free 4-5 hour intensive SAT course online. It features online lectures on content and strategy, as well as recommended practice problems.

This course is available specifically to underserved school communities. Standardized testing continues to favor higher-income students who have access to more resources and prep courses. I would like to help change that by using my innovative online teaching techniques.
